Luther senior Tope to present cello recital

Emily Tope, Luther College senior from La Crosse, Wisconsin, will perform a cello recital at noon Saturday, Nov. 1, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall on the Luther campus.

Tope, the daughter of Kaye Johnston and Steven Tope of La Crosse, Wisconsin, is majoring in English at Luther. She is a 2011 graduate of Central High School.

Tope will perform songs by Nadia Boulanger, J.S. Bach, Tchaikovsky and Dale Newton.

A reception will follow the recital. Both the recital and reception are open to the public.

Tope is a student of Eric Kutz, Luther associate professor of music. She will be accompanied by Zachary Busch, Luther class of 2009.

Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation with six choirs, three orchestras, three bands, two jazz bands and nearly 1,000 student musicians.

Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. More than 350 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, church music and performance.
